Not only does this more accurately reflect the world as depicted in the show itself, but it also helps eliminate some of the difficulties posed by the lack of magic items in the setting. As such, campaigns set in this world should rely more heavily on non-player characters than traditional d20 campaigns.
While more traditional d20 fantasy settings are awash with strange and magical creatures, the Avatar: the Last Airbender world is relatively NPC-focused.
